More on Essay 1-03 (May 16th)

As with Essay 1-02 (about Kumamoto), we'll spend two weeks on Essay 1-03, which is a movie review. In today's class, you'll need to write a post that gives the basic information of the movie, such as title, actors, and director. This post should have the tags essay prep and movies. You don't have to write in sentences; probably a list is easiest. You should also include any useful keywords.

By May 22nd, you should post a version of your review, complete if possible, for correction. This should be labeled movies and essay drafts.

The actual essay is due by May 29th. You should label this one movies and essays.

Remember to use the Essay Map if you find it helpful!

You can find this in the WinK in Magnolia linklist, but this is so good that I wanted to highlight it here. The Essay Map helps you to plan and structure your essays. Please try it!

Writing 3: Important deadline

You may remember that I gave you these important minimum guidelines for blogging at the beginning of the semester:

  1. 5 posts after the 1st week
  2. 10 posts after the 2nd week
The main reason for these guidelines is that I want you to be accustomed to starting up your computer, logging into Blogger, and writing a short post. This will be a solid foundation for the course.

Many people haven't yet written 10 posts. If this is because of computer problems, you need to talk to me in the 3rd class to find a solution. Because the 3rd deadline is VERY IMPORTANT!
  • Anyone with fewer than 15 posts on their blog before the beginning of the 4th class will fail Writing 3!
If you don't understand this post, talk to me in the class. It's still not too late to catch up! Writing 15 posts will give you the basic ability and confidence to succeed in this course.

Writing essays

Did you notice Akicyann's post about writing essays? She found a site that gives lots of advice in Japanese. Check it out if you have time! I particularly liked this page on essay structure.
